Video is taking social media engagement to a whole new level. Across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, there has been a relatively steady growth in both video post frequency and actions on those videos since January 2013. In June 2013 alone, Facebook saw a massive jump of 193% in video actions due to the launch of the Best Vines page that month, which produced many of the top videos.
The video post frequency on Facebook grew steadily from January 2013 to July 2014, with a 500% growth in video actions during that timeframe, capping out at 130 million actions in August.
Video posts on Twitter tripled between February and August, and actions more than quadrupled. There was an exponential growth of more than 300% in July 2014 reaching 2.1 million actions, then doubling in August to 4.2 million actions.
Instagram has shown a strong and steady growth of 500% in both video posts and actions over the past year.
Looking forward, we are excited to see further video growth with these social platforms’ recent innovations to enhance the video experience: Facebook’s mobile video player, Twitter’s “promoted video” ad product and Instagram’s Hyperlapse app.
