The Martian dominated the Box Office this past weekend, accumulating over $54 million in U.S. ticket sales . However, Shareablee’s recent analysis of social film blockbusters shows that the much anticipated movies closing out 2015 are the real draw for social audiences. At Shareablee, we turn to social media to tell us how these films are performing, and which ones could be the next blockbuster breakouts, ranked by social actions (likes, comments, shares, retweets, favorites) across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens topped the ranking in anticipation of the film’s release in December. It also scored the top film on Instagram, with 85% of the film’s social actions coming from the platform. Star Wars’ top performing social posts featured #ThrowbackThursdays of behind-the-scenes photos from past films, as well as its #SpotlightOfTheWeek campaign, offering behind-the-scenes looks and furthering the build up in anticipation for Star Wars fans.
