ESPN, Bleacher Report and FOX Sports dominate the Top 10;
Sports media brands see 74 percent growth in engagement year over year
NEW YORK , March 10, 2016 / PRNewswire / -- Shareablee Inc. , the leading social media benchmarking and audience analysis firm that partners with FOX Sports, NBA, Bleacher Report, Johnson & Johnson, NFL, Hearst Corporation and Luxottica, among others, today released a February 2016 ranking of the most socially engaged sports media brands in the U.S. The ranking, which includes all sports-related media properties' main flagship pages and ancillary pages, reflects a total of 301 million social actions across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube (excluding views). This was a 74 percent year over year growth, driven by a 261 percent growth on Instagram. Engagement on video content accounted for 24 percent of total social actions. Sports media brands represented 4 percent of all social actions taken on content published by U.S. brands in February.
ESPN ranked number one overall with 132.5 million total social actions, topping Facebook with 35.3 million actions, Twitter with 9.5 million actions and Instagram with 87.7 million actions. ESPN also captured the most social amplification (shares and retweets) of any media brand with 5.7 million shares and retweets on Facebook and Twitter. Bleacher Report captured the most Facebook video actions at 9.1 million. FOX Sports ranked number one on YouTube with 117 thousand actions excluding views. Turner Sports saw the largest growth of any Top 10 sports media brand at 44 percent, driven by NBA on TNT's 134 percent growth in February compared to January.
