Social Trends at CES
The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas wrapped up this week. From robots to Razer, we break down what everyone was buzzing about on social media.
A laundry-folding Robot? Sign us up! The bot called Laundriod , which can sort and fold clothes, was one of the most talked about products at CES, especially among women. “Robot” was a top keyword for both women and men, while “Razer,” “laptop” and “smartphones” were most popular for men. Interestingly, men had 418 keywords compared to 201 from women.
The gaming company Razer was the most talked about brand at the show on social. Gamers went wild for the prototype of their gaming console , dubbed “Project Valerie,” which is the first portable laptop with three built-in monitors. Razer also debuted “Project Ariana,” in which depth-sensing cameras and projectors expand your TV on the wall for a virtual reality gaming experience. “Virtual Reality” and “Video Games” were also trending topics.
While the most comments on social came from the 25 to 34 age bracket, it was a product from the kids’ toy company Lego that was most talked about among 35 to 44 year olds. Turns out both adults and kids enjoy playing with robots. Lego Boost allows you to build your own robots using an app where you drag and drop actions to control the bot.
Another buzz-worthy idea was the integration of Amazon Alexa into just about everything. Whether it’s appliances, lighting, home security systems or phones, Alexa voice control can command most of your favorite gadgets – even your car. With a focus on autonomous driving and voice-assisted features, connected cars were another a big trend . Self-driving cars could be taking over the roads in the very near future.
It seems that more and more devices are being controlled by smartphones these days, so it’s surprising that the top device used for posting about CES was the desktop, with iPhone and Android tying for second place. The top hashtags were #ces2017, #3Dprinting, #TeamEricsson, a community dedicated to the telecom company’s content, and #zenfoneAR, which is the first augmented and virtual reality smartphone.
CES always gives us a fun peek into the future of technology. In looking at what was trending on social, it’s clear that users are excited to see things that were once fanciful (Hello, robots!) are now becoming a reality.
