In 2017, social engagement for the average U.S. brand grew 20% year over year across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Twitter and Instagram captured a majority of the growth in engagement, both increasing by 34%. Twitter increased from 2.5 billion actions in 2016 to 3.4 billion in 2017, and Instagram increased from 30.2 billion actions in 2016 to 40.3 billion in 2017.

Video content continued to grow across the social web, the number of video posts from brands increased by 36% and engagement with those videos also grew by 77%. In fact, in 2017, 29% of all actions were driven by video compared to only 17% in 2016 with Twitter seeing the most growth.
