June 12, New York, NY - The high volume of social content generated during the Billboard Music Awards and fashion’s biggest night of the year has helped E! jump up the latest ranking of the most socially engaged TV networks in the United States.
Shareablee, the global leader in audience based social media measurement today announced the May ranking for the Top 10 US TV Networks, showing a rise of 5 percent in total actions across the major platforms on the previous month (April).
The Top 10 US TV networks in May accounted for 697.7 million actions across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with consistent total action leader ESPN ahead on 230.3 million actions.
E! News engagement on Twitter and Instagram grew 131% and 66% respectively in May. The top 10 performing Twitter posts were all Billboard Music Awards related and combined accounted for 1.2 million actions. The top Instagram post during this period was a video of Zendaya arriving at the event which attracted 5.7 million views. The top Facebook video was from America’s Got Talent first audition episode of blind singer Kodi Lee which attracted 260,000 likes and 184,000 shares.
As a result, E! jumped two places overall into the No 2 position, with a total of 86.2 million actions and recording the highest metric on the Actions To Fans index at 464, almost 5 times the category average.
The other top 5 were rounded out by NBC at 80.6 million actions and ABC at 63.4 million actions, while FOX News Channel jumped 3 places to 5th in May at 48.3 million actions.
FOX News Channel also finished second on the audience to fans index, at 404, mirroring E!'s success in that metric.
Fox News engagement grew 12% in May driven by a 40% increase on engagement with video content on Facebook and a 22% increase in Instagram engagement. The top posts on both platforms related to the President of the United States while the second top video was the arrival of the veterans Rolling Thunder event in the National Mall.
With a total of 6 million actions, CNN rose one place from the April rankings to sit at 10th place in May.
